Ulduar

Ulduar is a raid dungeon in the titan complex of Ulduar, located within the Storm Peaks. It serves as the prison of the Old God Yogg-Saron as well as the current residence of most of the titanic watchers who have fallen under his influence. The dungeon has been released in patch 3.1.0, the first content patch for Wrath of the Lich King. There the tokens for Tier 8 (10-men) and Tier 8,5 (25-men) can be looted, as well as gear ranging from item level 213 to 226 in normal mode, and 226 to 239 in heroic mode, and Emblems of Conquest.

Ulduar isdivided into different separate raid wings, - starting with The Siege of Ulduar and followed by the Antechamber, the Keepers' wing, the Spark of Imagination, and the Descent into Madness - the following wing only accessible after finishing the previous wings. A teleporting system allows an easy jumping from one location to another as the dungeon spreads very far.

Ulduar's Encounters

Ulduar inhabites besides Titans, iron dwarfs, vrykul and giants, fourteen encounters. Ten of the raid dungeon's fourteen encounters will have hard modes (different from normal and heroic modes). Algalon the Observer will be an optional encounter.

  • Flame Leviathan: Flame Leviathan is the first boss encounter in Ulduar, found in the Formation Grounds. Most of the players in this encounter do not use their regular class abilities, but instead work with siege vehicles to destroy this machine (similar to drakes in Malygos' third phase). The rest of Ulduar is not accessible until this boss is destroyed.
  • Ignis the Furnace Master: Ignis the Furnace Master is the second boss encounter in Ulduar and can be found in the Colossal Forge. The Ignis encounter is an endurance fight with a soft enrage (not a timer) that makes up the complexity of the fight and affects all members of the raid.
  • Razorscale: Razorscale is the third boss encounter in Ulduar. It is an Ironbound proto-drake that flies over the Razorscale's Aerie, across from the Colossal Forge.
  • XT-002 Deconstructor: XT-002 Deconstructor is the fourth raid boss in Ulduar raid, and one of the many creations of Mimiron. He directly blocks the entrance into the lower level of Ulduar in the Scrapyard. He also seems to have the personality and mental state of a small child, considering smaller creatures to be his "toys."
  • Iron Council: The Iron Council or Assembly of Iron is the fifth boss encounter in Ulduar found in The Assembly of Iron. The encounter consists of Steelbreaker, Runemaster Molgeim, and Stormcaller Brundir. Killing any one of the three will give a soft enrage of +25% damage to the other two and grant them additional abilities (similar to Fathom-Lord Karathress). Killing the second of the trio will grant the last with a final stage apart from their usual abilities which must be dealt with in different tactics.
  • Kologarn: Kologarn is the sixth boss encounter in Ulduar. He guards the Shattered Walkway into central Ulduar. He is not only protecting the bridge, he is the bridge. Players fight not only him but two detachable arms that appear to be separate mobs that can be broken off of him.
  • Auriaya: Auriaya is the seventh boss encounter in Ulduar. She roams around the area beyond the Shattered Walkway.
  • Hodir: Players are able to fight Hodir but not kill him. His loot is distributed through a frozen chest in his chambers.
  • Thorim: In order to defeat Thorim, players must go through a gauntlet starting off with a Jormungar Behemoth and a rush of iron dwarves.
  • Freya: Freya is located in the center of the valley in Ulduar, surrounded by three ancients which all have unique abilities that will make the fight harder if players choose not to kill them prior to fighting Freya.
  • Mimiron
  • General Vezax: General Vezax is the twelfth boss encounter in Ulduar. He can be found in the Descent into Madness guarding the Prison to Yogg-Saron. Mana-based classes will have to deal with a lock on their regen, but will be able to restore it by destroying crystals that will drop a residue on the floor to restore it.
  • Yogg-Saron: Yogg-Saron is the Old God of death, imprisoned by the Titans within the depths of Ulduar. He is responsible for much of the corruption in the Grizzly Hills, including that of Ursoc. He has managed to sway Loken under his influence, using him to wage war with the rest of the Pantheon. He is now the end-boss of the Ulduar instance.
  • Algalon: Algalon is a hard mode only encounter that cannot be accessed until at least one member of your raid has completed the quest chain that starts from a drop from the Iron Council.

Ulduar's hard modes

Encounters completed on hard modes will reward achievements as well as extra and/or improved item rewards.

  • Flame Leviathan: Speak to the Lore Keeper of Norgannon first and select his gossip option, then speak to Brann. Leave one to four large colored towers up to have Flame Leviathan's HP, damage, and abilities scale. Four towers up is the hardest mode.
  • Ignis the Furnace Master: NO hard mode.
  • Razorscale: NO hard mode.
  • XT-002 Deconstructor: When his heart becomes exposed, destroy it. This is a DPS race. When the heart is destroyed, XT-002 gains 50% more HP and does 30% more damage. Destroying the heart also heals him to 100%.
  • Iron Council: This encounter scales depending on what order you kill the NPCs. The NPCs will gain new abilities and do more damage depending on who's left up with them. Leaving the dwarf up last is considered the easiest, followed by the vrykul for medium mode, and the giant being the last add is considered the hardest.
  • Kologarn: NO hard mode.
  • Auriaya: NO hard mode.
  • Hodir: Hodir's hard mode is simply a DPS race. Kill him before three minutes are up to get both Rare Caches of Hodir; kill him before six minutes are up to get just one. He enrages at nine minutes.
  • Thorim: Battling through the Arena and engaging Thorim within three minutes causes Sif not to despawn and assist Thorim in the fight. Sif cannot be targeted and will nuke the raid.
  • Freya: Just like Sartharion -- leave her Keepers (up to three) up during the fight. She gains new abilities for each Keeper.
  • Mimiron: Have someone sneak behind him and hit the Big Red Button. Pressing it activates an 8-minute enrage timer and increases the health and damage done by the vehicles in the encounter by 25%.
  • General Vezax: Don't use the Saronite Vapors to regain mana. If no member of your raid makes use of the Saronite Vapors, then after 8 Saronite Shards are dropped, the Saronite Animus will spawn. It's got 8 million health on heroic and applies a debuff to the raid that increases shadow damage taken by 10% every 2 seconds. Kill it and kill General Vezax for your hard mode reward.
  • Yogg-Saron: During the fight, if you've defeated any of the Watchers (Hodir, Thorim, Freya, Mimiron) before engaging Yogg-Saron, then they'll assist you in the fight, but only if you've talked to them outside their hall before you engage Yoggy. Don't activate one to four Watchers for scaling loot. The meta achievement requires you leave one or fewer Watchers up.
  • Algalon: NO hard mode (but optional).
